California School for the Deaf (CSDR)

Purpose:

To brighten the lives of deaf children living in an institutional setting away from their families. Ticktockers learn about the deaf world through sign classes, playing with the children, helping them with crafts and reading with them. They have also set up a gift shop to reward good behavior for children living away from home. NCL received their charter membership by working at CSDR. Their are only 2 schools in the state and one of them is part of the Riverside community.

Events: 

The 7th grade Ticktockers have adopted the boys and girls elementary age dorms. They give 4 parties a year and help with the silent sleigh. The moms and daughters also make pillows, blankets, shower curtains, and decorate the dorms to make them feel less institutional and more like a home. The girls read with children who have had cochlear implants.  The girls can also make surprise balls or gifts to donate to the gift shop, which was set up to reward good behavior.

Volunteers need to take a one day sign Language class at the school.

Community Care & Rehabilitation Center (CCC)

Purpose:

Community Care is both a convalescent hospital and permanent facility for seniors.

Events: 

Thanksgiving Dinner: Ticktockers and Moms will serve Thanksgiving dinner to patients and their families. This usually begins around 10:00 AM and goes until 1:00 PM. 
Candlelight Dinners: Throughout the year the hospital puts on these "special" dinners that require serving and cleaning. 
Calendars: On the day before the end of the month, CCC needs someone on a regular basis to decorate the three bulletin boards that the calendars go on. She provides the calendars—we provide the decorations that are themed to the month. 
Table Centerpieces: Once a month CCC needs someone to change the dining room table decorations to something suiting the month, such as fall leaves for October, etc. Usually these are silk flowers. Many are available there, or you can bring your own. 
Special Events: Such as Trick or Treat or Christmas Tree Trimming These special events require Ticktockers to participate with the seniors. There is also the Christmas Tea, Visiting with the elderly and reading them books, etc.

Habitat for Humanity

Purpose:

This organization works to eliminate substandard housing by building low-cost houses for low-income families who help build their homes and pay a no-interest mortgage.

Events: 

Working as a crew (must be over 16 for construction, over 14 for landscaping) to help build a Habitat House or provide lunch for the work crew.  Work is scheduled every Saturday once a house is under construction.

Junior League of Riverside, Inc

Purpose:

The Junior League of Riverside has a focus area which is Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention.   The monies raised by the Junior Leagues supports their community projects in this focus area.

Events: 

Junior League Charity Ball (1st Saturday in December): Prior to this event there will be a Ball Training night which you must attend before working at the Ball. The ball is a black-tie formal dinner party. i around Riverside. . This is a 4-hour minimum work night and there is a dress code.

To instill a sense of community, pride and leadership within Riverside by creating partnerships that work toward beautification of the city.
