Purpose:

The American Cancer Society raises money to help fund research to find a cure for cancer.

Events: 

Great American Smoke Out: (Oct-Nov) This is an awareness campaign about the health risks of smoking.  Call Pam Simpson at 320-7142 x206
Daffodil Days: (Jan-Mar) Major Fundraiser, lots of mailing, copying, stuffing and folding.  Towards the end there are lots of daffodil deliveries to make.
24-Hour Relay: (6/30) Major Fundraiser, need help setting this event up, checking people in and serving food etc.
Health Fairs: Must attend a 1½ hour training which will teach you all about the Cancer Society, you can then  attend numerous health fairs, work booths and hand out information.
Internet Research: They need to know what kind of information is being disseminated about cancer on the net. Need people to surf!
Calligraphy: There are always certificates which need this Special Touch!
Clerical: Both at Home & In The Office
Drivers: Volunteer drivers for its Road to Recovery Program, which transports cancer patients to and from their medical  appointments.  Volunteers will help patients who are too ill or old to drive themselves and don't have family members able to take them.  The society trains drivers, who volunteer one or two mornings or afternoons per month. Purpose:

The Art Alliance is the fundraising arm for the Riverside Art Museum, which holds many art exhibits, programs for children and traveling programs.

Events: 

Winter Project: (Dec.)  There are many events over the three days, including a premiere party, a brunch and a children's workshop which require assistance with coat check, serving, cleaning, etc.
"Art Alive" Spring Project: "Art Alive" pairs artwork and fresh floral arrangements to create beautiful scents by local artists and florist.  Event such as the premiere party need serving and cleaning help.

Arthritis Foundation, Inland Empire Branch

Purpose:

The Arthritis foundation is over 50 years old, and supports research to find a cure for arthritis.  They also run a summer camp for kids with arthritis and offer land and water exercise classes which help those suffering with the disease.

Events: 

Taste of the Town: (October) This is a major fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation.  It is a wine and food tasting, which invites chefs from all over the Inland Empire to attend.  Volunteers would pass out glasses and plates, greet guests, bus tables and help set and clean up.
Applause: (November) Help with children - organization, dress, tickets, seating.
Arthritis Foundation Celebrity Golf Tournament: (Before the event and in April) This event is held in Menifee.  But there are goodie bags to stuff and literature to stamp here, in the days leading up to the event.  On the date there are many things to do if you don't mind driving there.
Arthritis Walk: (May): 15-20  Volunteers needed.
Clerical: (At home and at the office) There are clerical duties year round, including making copies, stamping literature and helping in the office.  Call about items you can take home and do.

California Citrus Heritage State Park

Purpose:

This beautiful state park highlights the orange growing industry. They have a gift shop, as well.
Grade Level: 9th

Events: 

Orange Blossom Festival: (April) The Citrus Heritage Park is involved in the parade and has a booth. They need volunteers to help at both!
Gift Shop: After a State Park Volunteer Training Class, you can volunteer once a month in the gift shop, which is a big help. Moms and daughters should do this together.
Summer Concerts: "Pass the Bucket" at summer concerts for donations.
Special Events: Beautification projects are often planned that need your help.
There is a training program for more serious volunteers who want to commit more than 8 hours a month for school tours and working the gift shop.

This is a non-profit dance company which raises money for productions and free children's recitals.
Grade Level: 12th

Events: 

Ghostwalk: (October, around Halloween) Downtown Main Street Mall by the Mission Inn.  Walking tour of downtown Riverside with specific stops chosen from ghost stories written about the location.  Ghost stories are written by local authors who have entered a story contest.  Volunteers help with the tours as tour guides or group supervisors.  Each tour takes 1½ hours.  There are also games, food and activity booths which need to be set up and run.
Nutcracker: (December, Riverside Municipal Auditorium) CRB needs ushers and chaperones at this production.
Spring Production: (April or May) CRB needs ushers and chaperone at this production.
Clerical Work: Help with bulk mailings. labeling and sorting, two to three times per year.
