Mindy Smith
"My Pick For The Best New Americana Artist of 04"

"One Moment More"
Mindy Smith is brilliant, creative and has vocals pure as a cold mountain stream. She seems to sing in an effortless manner, but with great emotion. Oh yeh, she wrote all of the songs on this CD except the bonus track "Jolene"- written by Dolly Parton, who also adds background vocals. In her own words in the liner notes she considers this material a diary and I would call that a good description after many listens, her music is real personal and can really give you something to relate to and it really draws you in.
Mindy moved to Nashville in 1998 after being born in Long Island, New York and living in different parts of the country. Her first album I really believe is going to make lots of noise in the music industry because honestly, it is the most incredible debut album that I've ever heard by an artist. Every song is at least very good. This gal is here to stay. She definitely fits the No Depression style, lots of beautiful acoustic country songs with great acoustic pickin' to edgy alt/country songs sung with an edge and some heavy electric rock guitar. Her material is very strong with lots of Christian themes running thru the lyrics. She writes great songs that hit home and are straight forward. Songs that inspire, comfort and encourage.
Her label "Vanguard" obviously had a lot of belief in her, putting out Nashville's best sessions musicians for her and getting the use of Nashville's best studios, not to mention that this disc was mastered by Doug Sax and Robert Hadley. Doug Sax is arguably the best mastering engineer in the country, period.
It's really hard to find a favorite song so I will
mention about five.
Falling - great acoustic country, sparse, great acoustic guitar and some great
steel, Smith's vocals really are sweet and some great lyrics about holding on.
Come To Jesus - this song starts out soft, but quickly moves into an edgy
alt/country mode with nice mandolin and electric guitar. Great lyrics about the
love of Jesus sung with a real edge to her vocals, this song rocks out.
Angel Doves - beautiful, soft encouraging ballad about God watching over us and
his angels when life falls apart. She really puts her all in this. Nice piano
and very pretty steel and some great acoustic guitar pickin'.
Fighting For It All - upbeat, bouncy, acoustic and electric beauty, talking
about going for it - great production as is the whole record by Mindy and Steve
Bickingham, great electric guitar solo.
It's Amazing - another acoustic beauty, really showing her vocal prowess and
range. Song about a friend - the sound quality in this song is pure ear candy,
the song just flows and shimmers.
In closing, I must say thank you to everyone involved in this project for creating a musical masterpiece. - Release date 1/27/04
