Julia Fordham

"That's Life"
Julia Fordham; singer-songwriter, rich emotive vocals somewhere between
Norah Jones and Joni Mitchell. Songs that make you think, make you joyful; a
recording that is audiophile quality, but that is what you would expect from
Bernie Grundman mastering. Her vocals are simply beautiful, her melodies are
simple , her musicians compliment her and the background vocals are rich and a
big part of her picture.
Fordham makes songs that you relate to , are very personal, and make you
wonder why she isn't a major star, but that is so often the case( you have to
sift thru the sugar to find the gold) from the opening song "Sugar".
Listening to this album transports you to a live smoky club somewhere in
New Orleans. "Walking On The Water" with the horns and bouncy rhythm is a
masterpiece with great lyrics.
"Perfect Me" with acoustic guitar only starting out emphasizing her
sweet voice conjuring up pictures of Joni Mitchell. The song grows in
intensity, with some pedal steel, piano, her vocals in control. She nails some
incredible range here effortlessly, this song is my favorite. None of the ten
tracks are in any hurry to end as her and the band explores the themes of the
melodies.
Title track "That's Life" is an incredible song, great lyrics, full of
great imagery complemented by beautiful acoustic guitar and some stellar
backup vocals. Some sweet lead guitar.
Julia is a brilliant, creative artist who has something worth sharing.
