Alison Krauss & The Union Station Live

This double CD for the price of one to me is a gold mine .It is a very high quality recording of 25 songs. It was recorded at the Louisville Palace this August on 2 nights. Once again mastering ace Doug Sax takes the honors. The acoustic instruments shimmer and the mix is perfect, enough of the crowd noise is left in the mix to remind you that it is a live recording and not a studio recording. Actually better than a studio recording because the band seems to perform at a higher level with the crowd involvement. Alison arguably has the best band in the land with Jerry Douglas on dobro and Dan Tyminski on guitar and vocals.

This also serves as Alison's greatest hits album, if you want to call it that, because she does all of her best songs, plus a couple of songs from "Oh, Brother, Where art thou". Alison has the closest thing on earth to an angel's voice. I can't think of anyone that sounds like her.

My favorite tracks are, "Let me touch you for awhile"-upbeat acoustic love ballad, "The Lucky One", upbeat country track, "Now that I've Found You"-medium pace country love song, "Broadway"-country ballad, "Man of Constant Sorrow"-upbeat bluegrass number, "Forget about it"-great upbeat blue grassy ballad, "Down to the river to pray"-hauntingly beautiful song and "New Favorite"-upbeat ballad with an unusual rhythm.
