Minutes of the 2009 Reunion Business Meeting
At the Tuscan Inn, San Francisco, CA
September 26, 2009
The annual
meeting of the USS Pursuit Reunion Association with the USS Pursuit
crewmembers and their spouses and guests in attendance was held in San
Francisco CA at the Tuscan Inn on Saturday, September 26, 2009,
commencing at 1800.
Meeting
opened by President, George Rose with a welcome for old friends and new
friends with good wishes for all. George recognized the members who
attended for the first time – Murphy Smiley (AM108), Paul Lucas (AM108)
and Robert Thomas (AGS17).
Meeting
called to order by Secretary, John Schulz. The Pledge of Allegiance was
recited by George Rose who was joined by all. Jean Jack then sang the
Star Spangled Banner.
A Moment
of Silence was led by John Schulz to remember and honor our deceased
crewmembers.
The
minutes of our previous meeting, held during the 2008 reunion in
Branson, MO were accepted as written.
A call
was made for Officer’s Reports:
President, George Rose – After telling the history of the “Monkey
Mascot” on the Pursuit in WWII, George displayed our Monkey doll Mascot,
to be passed on to the next President at the appropriate time.
Secretary, John Schulz – A drive is on for all members to update
their status with the Secretary when changes are made. This can be done
by mail or phone.
Treasurer Report, Joe Venovich – as of 9/26/09 the treasury has
$2,700 in the treasury. There was a reminder to send in the $20 annual
dues to Joe whenever you can. His address will be in the next
newsletter.
Publicity Chairman, James Jack – will continue with his present
very successful methods, to promote the 2010 reunion in Mystic, CT.
Historian, Malcolm Milligan –reported that much of the material
donated by “Mac” MacNichol has been indexed and scanned for history.
Much of the original material was on display in the Hospitality Room.
Many of our attendees spent time reading through the records.
Official Photographer, Bob Ciereck had no report. John Schulz
reported he will send pictures that become available to all attendees on
a CD.
Selection of Future Reunion Locations:
There was
discussion about the location for 2010 in Mystic, Conn. (near New
London, Conn.) which was selected during the 2008 reunion. Malcolm
Milligan and Mary Donohue volunteered to host this reunion.
There were
no recommendations for the 2011 reunion during the meeting.
Secretary Schulz volunteered to contact members directly to find a
location for 2011.
Selection of Officers for 2010 Reunion:
The floor was then opened for nominations and voting for
2010 Officers.
Malcolm Milligan was nominated for President
John Schulz was nominated for Secretary
Joe Venovich was nominated for Treasurer
James Jack was nominated for Publicity Chairman
Malcolm Milligan was nominated for Historian
Bob Ciereck was nominated for Official
Photographer
All nominees were voted into office by the members.

Business:

Presentations of Experiences On Board the USS Pursuit. (Sea Stories)
a. George
Rose spoke of the one Japanese prisoner they captured rowing a small
boat with the intent of rowing to the United States. He was on
board for a while as they took him to Pearl Harbor.
b.
John (Pink) Miller shared one of his many experiences on the
Pursuit with the group.

A VERY SPECIAL THANKS were given to George and Martha for preparing
and hosting a very successful reunion in San Francisco.
