Daniel
Foster
received his MFA degree with
honors
from the San Francisco Art Institute in Painting/Sculpture and New
Genres and his BS degree in Business
Administration/Entrepreneurship from the University of Southern
California. He also studied three years of philosophy and studio
art from the University of California-San Diego. Before his
arrival in Riverside, he worked at the San Diego Art Institute &
Museum, the Headlands Center for the Arts (Sausalito, CA), San
Francisco Art Institute, and the
University Art Gallery, University of California-San Diego.
Since
September of 2003 Daniel has been the Executive Director of the
Riverside Art Museum. Under his leadership the Museum has grown
tremendously in terms of number and quality of exhibitions,
educational programs, and community outreach
projects/initiatives. He holds numerous community leadership
roles, including Chair of the Riverside Cultural Consortium,
Vice-President of Community Development/Riverside Downtown Chamber
of Commerce, and Board Member to the International Relations
Council, Riverside Humane Society, and the Downtown Riverside
Chamber of Commerce.
Over the
last twenty years, Daniel has developed into an accomplished
visual artist and poet. Pursuing a decidedly
non-commercial/academic approach to art-making, he has produced
large bodies of work addressing a myriad of artistic interests in
painting, mixed media, installation, poetry, photography, public
art, and conceptual art. Daniel's Giant Orange,
Orange Reflections,
will utilize mixed media and reflective signage materials that
will enable his orange to glow/reflect light at nighttime.
