Helen L. Bell
majored in art at Western
Maryland College and continued her studies at the Maryland
Institute of Art. She received a merit scholarship to the Telfair
Academy of Arts and Sciences in Savannah, Georgia. Helen continues
to sharpen her skills and perception by taking university, museum,
and private courses on a continuing basis.
Arriving in
California in the ‘70s, the artist focused on contemporary work
and had solo exhibits at Rizzoli International, South Coast Plaza;
Zola Fine Art, Los Angeles, California; EOS Gallery, Redlands,
California as well as others and was represented for several years
by Valerie Miller Fine Art, Palm Desert, California. Her work was
chosen for the corporate rental program of the Los Angeles County
Museum of Art in Los Angeles, California. Her desire to document
the 21 California Missions in oil led her to concentrate her
painting en plein air. Each mission was visited and painted on
site. The Mission Series had a successful exhibit at the Riverside
Art Museum in 2003-04 and at Mission San Juan Capistrano in 2005.
Helen prefers the challenge and excitement of capturing the
moment. Her work is in many corporate and private collections.
