The Giant Orange
ArtVenture continues to receive rave reviews from the community.
Recently the Riverside Downtown Partnership presented the Art
Alliance with its “2007 Arts & Culture Award” for the project.
Kathy Allavie and Phyllis Crabtree accepted the award on behalf of
the Art Alliance.
In addition, the
City of Riverside selected the Giant Orange to become our gift
to the City of Sendai, Japan, during our
Sister-City
celebration in March. Giant orange artists Cathy and Greg
Maxwell were commissioned to create a mosaic depiction of the
sister-city ties that Riverside and Sendai share. Everyone is
welcome to come see the Sendai Orange in the lobby of the
Riverside Art Museum. Call the Museum at (951) 684-7111 for
more information.
Read more about the
giant oranges in the Winter edition of La Sierra Today (La Sierra
University’s quarterly publication). Beatriz Mejia-Krumbein, (a
Giant Orange artist and the Art department chair at La Sierra
University) is proud that her orange, sponsored by the Kiwanis of
Uptown Riverside, will be donated to the new Centro de Los Ninos
Children’s Center when it is built later this year. Until
then, you can see it on the La Sierra campus. Nearly half the
Giant Oranges will grace public places when they are all permanently
installed.
