ABOUT LIMBERLOST WELSH SPRINGER SPANIELS

My first Welsh Springer arrived in August of 1979 from Connie Christie's Killagay Kennels, her name was Lindy, registered as Killagay's Limberlost. She went onto become CH Killagay's Limberlost CD, WDX, VC which shows her great versatility. She was a conformation champion, received her basic obedience title, the highest field title that was available when she was competing, and our National Club's versatility certificate which recognizes her abilities. Lindy was honored to win Best Opposite Sex at the National Club's Specialty Show in 1981 and 1982. Lindy was bred very limitedly and most of the Welsh Springers who carry the Limberlost name can trace their ancestry back to her. Of course what the titles don't show is what a great ambassador to the breed she was. When she was being shown Welshies were a real rarity and her constantly wagging tail and even her comical sense of humor endeared her to all. These traits plus her enthusiasm for everything she did and her showmanship has been passed on to her offspring and to all her great plus grandchildren. Lindy also provided me with a basis for good health. She was OFA good, clear eyes (CERF) and normal VWD (an inherited bleeding disorder).

Limberlost is not a kennel but my hobby and avocation. My goals are to breed responsibly, using only mentally and physically healthy Welsh Springers, while keeping in mind proper breed type as defined in the American Kennel Club breed standard. All breeding stock is screened for any genetic defects and certified clear of eye defects (CERF) and hip dysplasia (OFA) and are either AKC champions or have AKC major points. All puppies are sold to carefully screened homes with a written contract/guarantee and I will always take back any puppies sold; at any age, for any reason. My main goal is to provide a happy healthy family companion. Owning a Welsh Springer is a long term commitment (12 - 15 years) and not everyone is suited to live with such an active, mischievous dog. With this in mind all prospective owners are screened to make the best possible match of puppies available or even the proper breed for their life style. Breeding is done on a limited basis with generally only 1 - 2 litters per year. At this time the males that I own are not available for public use. All my dogs live in my house (and yes it does get a little crowded at times). Puppies are raised in this family environment, in a room off the kitchen to maximize their socialization.

I like to use a questionnaire to help select the correct  puppy for you and to make sure that a Welsh is suited to your life style.
