I first read a magazine column by McManus while on an airplane, between Los Angeles and Boston. It was in Field and Stream, or some other outdoorsy-type. I laughed out loud twice while reading it. At the end of the column, it mentioned his book, 'They Shoot Canoes, Don't They?', which is a collection of his best columns So, I bought it to read on the return flight to LA. I am absolutely convinced that the Captain considered an emergency landing in the midwest so that the whitecoats could take the shrieking maniac off the aircraft.
