Target Audience

The Fine Wood... List is provided by The Artwork Network in conjunction with ListBot to facilitate and encourage sharing of information and serious discussion of all phases of Fine WoodCarving, WoodWorking, and Precision Furniture. The List began life as The Fine_Woodcarving List, but we decided to make the name a bit smaller, and the content a bit wider.

Members are drawn to the List from various walks of life, but they do have one thing in common: They know how to use their mail-editing keys to remove 'extra' quoting of previous messages. They enjoy slicing off headers and footers, and the parts that are not needed to put their words in context. If you need help learning this valuable skill, just let us know.

About the List

The List is closed to Non-Subscribers. In other words, unless you are subscribed to the list and receiving the distributed posts, you cannot post messages. This helps protect the members from unscrupulous mass-marketing weasels, because they must supply a confirmed valid e-mail address prior to posting.

The list is free of charge. 'Subscription' is a term used slightly differently than it is with magazines and newspapers. It merely indicates that you have been placed on the disribution list. There is no fee for submitting or receiving messages, unless of course your Internet Service Provider charges you for receiving or sending e-mail.

ListBot provides the listserver, free of charge. To offset their costs, they send a short sponsorship note with outgoing messages. It is generally 3 lines, no more than 4. They are easy to ignore, or you can look at them if you want. If they get bothersome, I will convert the list to run without them. But it will cost me money to do so -- TANSTAAFL "There a'int no such thing as a free lunch."

Posting Messages

Prior to sending mail to The Fine Wood... List, you must first complete the subscription process, as above. After you receive a message welcoming you to the list, you may begin sending messages. A good first message might introduce yourself and tell a little about what you are up to. When you want to send a message to the list for distribution to all its members, email it to this address:

(Note the '_' between 'Fine' and 'Wood'... it can get lost in an underlined link

Copies of your message will be sent out to all members. Once again, it may take a minute or an hour for your message to be sent out. And sometimes longer. This is normal! Remember, good things come to those who wait. Or, if I may quote from High Road to China,
"The ox is slow, but the earth is patient."

Our Rules

Try to remain On-Topic
If you post a "Not-On-Topic" message, you must begin the subject line with "NOT:". Example: Subject: NOT: I just won the lottery!
When quoting, you must remove the quoted parts that are not needed for understanding the content of the message. This would include portions of the actual message as well as all quoted Headers, Signatures, and Footers
Virus Warnings are NOT ALLOWED. They are always fake.
No Spamming. No Chain Letters. No Multi-Level-Marketing. If they leak through, ignore them... the Administrator probably has already taken steps to eliminate further problems from the sender.
No Flames. Trolls are OK. We must, however, act like ladies and gentlemen at all times.
Rule number 6 will not be in force during the First Monday of each month, and on the equinox. It applies on all other days.
These rules may be changed from time to time, as deemed necessary.
